Set in the manufactured landscape Geiseltalsee, a flooded former mine, the film questions the impossibility of coexistence. While retired miners diligently create a recreation area and asylum seekers hope in vain for permanent residency or to be joined by their families, ornithologists anticipate the arrival of a rare migratory bird from Africa.
