The solo exhibition of artist and filmmaker Juliane Jaschnow (*1989), entitled Incitement to the Simulation of True Facts, at Leipzig’s art space D21, addresses the power of visual narratives as well as the instrumentalization of images and collective memory in the confrontation with present-day Russia. In this context, the exhibition presents elements from her existing works Rekapitulieren (2019–2021) and “mit freundlichem Beifall” (2023/2024), alongside the newly developed installation Incitement to the Simulation of True Facts (2025).

In her audiovisual installations, Juliane Jaschnow engages with the media’s narrative patterns through which Russia stages its role in the world and justifies its political actions. She encounters principles of (re-)construction and (re-)staging, distortions, copies, stage sets, and the transfer of historical symbols into contemporary contexts. The artist dissects these principles by materializing visual objects, shifting the discourse of media contributions and their ideological charge, and condensing them into expansive installations.
