FORENSICKNESS refers to the film WATCHING THE DETECTIVES (Chris Kennedy) and the investigation it deals with: 48h after the attack on the Boston Marathon in 2013, an online community tries to identify the assassin through surveillance and amateur footage. Added to this are Hollywood adaptations, news reports and statements by FBI agents. The desktop essay debates the interpretive openness of images, accusations based on racism, and the workings of authority production.
The media project BOTTLED SONGS explores strategies for dealing with online terrorist propaganda. In mutually addressing desktop essays, Galibert-Laîné and Lee analyze IS films found online. The scholars embed their thinking and speaking in questions about active, conscious, politicized viewing and the importance of emotion, empathy, and resilience in times of an unleashed torrent of images.
